Athens, Ohio – The Virginia defense broke up a Bobcat penalty corner with less than a minute to play and forced an offensive corner of their own, and the Cavaliers converted with 34 seconds to play in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime. In the extra session, another corner set the stage for a Cavalier goal, which was scored by Jessie Coleman, to send the Cavaliers (2-1) to the victory and push her past the 100 career point plateau.

Virginia jumped on top early as Molly McManus pushed in a rebound of a Coleman corner shot with 25:58 to play in the first half. Ohio tied the score 13 minutes later as the Bobcats converted a corner of their own with the direct shot coming between the post player and the Cavalier keeper, keeping the teams knotted at the break.

Ohio jumped on top for the first time as a scramble in front of the cage came after Emily White made an initial save on a Bobcat shot, but the Ohio offense scrapped their way to the ball and sent it to the back of the boards, putting them up 2-1 with 19 to play.

The Bobcats were awarded a penalty corner with just over a minute to play, but the Cavalier defense came out and not only stopped the corner but started a transition which resulted in a penalty corner for the Cavaliers. Coleman scored on a corner shot with an assist from Goodloe into the cage with 34 seconds in regulation.

In the overtime periond, both teams had the chance at the golden goal, but it was the Cavaliers who converted a penalty corner. Goodloe stopped the ball standing up, took a step and slotted the ball to Coleman, who shoved the ball into the back of the boards for the win.

Coleman becomes only the seventh person in Virginia history to record 100 career points. She stands just four points behind Cheryl Gleason, who tallied 105 from 1981-84. Her 43 career goals ranks sixth, just seven behind Michelle Vizzuso, who had 50 from 1995-98.

The Cavaliers continue in action tomorrow as they face the Bears of Southwest Missouri State in Athens, Ohio. Game time is 12:00.
