Virginia Men's Soccer Player Kyle Martino Named ACC Player of the Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia men’s soccer player Kyle Martino (Westport, Conn./Staples) earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week honor after leading the Cavaliers to two victories last week.
Martino, a junior midfielder, scored one goal and added four assists in two games at the 2001 Maryland/FILA Classic. His six points helped lead Virginia to a 4-2 win over American (September 7th) and a 3-2 victory over No. 11 Creighton (September 9th).
In the Cavaliers match with American, Martino scored a goal and had two assists and against No. 11 Creighton, he recorded the assist on two of the Cavaliers three goals. For his outstanding play, Martino was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the 2001 Maryland/FILA Classic.
For the season, Martino has started all four game he has appeared in as a central-midfielder. He is tied with teammate Alecko Eskandarian with a team-high eight points resulting from four assists and two goals. Martino’s four assists leads the team.
