CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia volleyball team will play its final two home matches of the 2001 season this weekend at University Hall. On Friday night (November 9) at 8:00 p.m., the Cavaliers host Georgia Tech. UVa closes out the home portion of its schedule on Saturday (November 10) with a 7:00 p.m. match against Clemson. The two matches will mark the final home appearances for UVa fifth-year outside hitter Andrea Fischer (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara).

The Cavaliers enter the weekend with a 7-15 overall record and a 3-11 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Virginia is coming off a 3-0 loss to Wake Forest on Sunday (November 4). Georgia Tech stands at 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the ACC. Prior to playing UVa on Saturday, Clemson has a match at Maryland on Friday night. The Tigers currently stand at 9-15 overall and 3-11 in the conference.

Earlier this season, the Cavaliers lost to Georgia Tech 3-0 in Atlanta. UVa also dropped a 3-0 decision at Clemson in the first meeting of the season between the two teams.

The two matches are the final home contests for Fischer. Fischer is the Cavaliers’ career leader in service aces with 145. She has also totaled 950 career kills and needs 50 more to become the seventh UVa player to reach 1,000 career kills.

After this weekend’s matches, UVa travels to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the ACC Championship November 15-18.
