GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia first-year setter Lily Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon) has been named to the Atlantic Coast Conference’s All-Freshman volleyball team as voted by the league’s nine head coaches. Phillips is one of seven players selected to the conference’s All-Freshmen team.

Phillips, who played in 20 matches and started nine for the Cavaliers, shared UVa’s setting duties with second-year Abby Whittenburg. Phillips led Virginia in assists per game with an average of 6.71 and was second to Whittenburg, in total assists with 443, only 19 behind Whittenburg. Phillips, who played in 66 of the team’s 86 games, was fifth on the squad with 119 digs and also added 15 kills, seven service aces and seven blocks.

The Cavaliers stand at 7-17 overall and 3-13 in the ACC and are seeded eighth in the 2001 ACC Championship which takes place November 15-18 in Tallahassee, Fla. at Lucy McDaniel Arena at Tully Gym. Virginia will play ninth-seeded N.C. State in the first round on Thursday evening, November 15 at 7:30 p.m.
