Virginia Men's Soccer to Host Winner of Seton Hall vs. Coastal Carolina Contest in the Second Round of the 2001 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s soccer team was awarded the second seed in the 2001 Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. UVa (17-1-1 overall, 6-0-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) will face the winner of the Seton Hall Pirates vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers match on Friday, November 23rd. Virginia will play the winner of that contest on Sunday, November 25th. Both matches will be played at Kl?ckner Stadium. The starting time for each contests is yet to be determined.
Virginia is a combined 4-0-0 all-time against Seton Hall and Coastal Carolina. UVa is 3-0-0 all-time against SHU and 1-0-0 all-time verses Coastal Carolina. Virginia defeated Seton Hall 4-1 (1992), 3-2 (1997) and 4-3 in overtime (1999). The Cavaliers defeated the Chanticleers by the score of 3-2 in their only meeting with the Coastal Carolina on September 2, 1987.
Virginia is making its 60th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. UVa stands 40-17-2 (.700) all-time in the history of the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship. The Cavaliers won 17 consecutive NCAA Tournament games from 1992-1995 and won the National Championship five time in 1989, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 1994.
