CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage announced Monday (Nov. 26) the promotion of Jane Miller to Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Programs at UVa. Miller has worked in the Virginia athletic department as a coach and administrator since 1983. She has been Associate Director of Athletics for Programs/Senior Woman Administrator at UVa since October of 1995.

In her new role, Miller will have expanded responsibilities in sport program support and in her work with the men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Jane Miller has played a major role in the development of our Olympic sport programs during the time she has been Associate Director of Athletics,” Littlepage said. “She’s been involved in selecting coaches and in the supervision of coaching staffs.

“Jane has represented the Department of Athletics in many different roles within the University, and at the conference and national levels. The success of our broad-based intercollegiate program is, in many ways, a function of the outstanding work Jane has done.”

Miller came to Virginia in 1983 as head field hockey and women’s lacrosse coach. She was UVa’s head field hockey coach from 1983-91 and her teams compiled a record of 100-65-7 in nine seasons.

She is the winningest coach in UVa’s women’s lacrosse history with a 12-year record of 144-44. She led UVa to six NCAA Final Four appearances and to two national championships (1991 and 1993). She was named NCAA Division I National Coach of the Year in 1991.

Miller was named an assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator in 1992. She resigned her position as head women’s lacrosse coach to assume full-time administrative duties in 1995.

Miller supervises both men’s and women’s athletic programs at UVa, and is the athletic department’s liaison to the offices of Student Affairs and Undergraduate Admissions. She is a member of the Women’s Center Council and serves on the University’s Advisory Committee on Alcohol and Substance Abuse. Miller was named to the NCAA Olympic Sport Liaison Committee in 2001. She is the Chair of the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Lacrosse Committee and is a member of the ACC Women’s Basketball Committee.

In September of 2000, Miller was appointed by UVa President John Casteen III to serve as a member of the Women’s Leadership Council, a standing University advisory committee.
