Charlottesville, Va. – University of Virginia head football coach Al Groh announced Tuesday that Arlen Harris and Bryson Spinner will leave the university and transfer effective in January. Both are expected to attend I-AA institutions.

Groh stated that “Arlen and Bryson each made significant contributions to our team this season and we anticipated their roles would expand even more in 2002. We are disappointed that will not be the case. However, after conversations with each young man we appreciate how each feels that his circumstances might be best served in another environment. Both should do very well and we wish them much success. Fortunately for the Cavaliers we have good talent returning at each position and anticipate adding some exciting players at each spot through the recruiting process.”

Said Spinner, “I have enjoyed my time at UVa and am very fond of the school. I have especially enjoyed playing for Coach Groh and his staff. They are definitely on the right track. This move is something I have been contemplating for some time. Now I believe a move will help me clarify some issues that will enable me to accomplish my academic and football goals.”
