GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Virginia freshman forward Elton Brown (Newport News, Va.) is the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for his play in the Cavaliers’ games with Georgia Tech (Jan. 22), Virginia Military Institute (Jan. 24) and Duke (Jan. 27). The 6-9 Brown scored 47 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the three games. He was 21-37 (56.8 percent) from the field, including 3-8 (37.5 percent) from three-point range, and 2-4 from the free throw line in 73 minutes of action.

In Virginia’s 69-65 victory at Georgia Tech, Brown came off the bench to compile the first double-double of his collegiate career. He scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds against the Yellow Jackets. Brown was 9-11 (81.8 percent) from the field, including 0-1 from three-point range, and he was 2-4 from the free throw line in 24 minutes of playing time.

Brown got his second start of the season in place of an injured Travis Watson in UVa’s 93-59 win over Virginia Military Institute at University Hall. He scored 15 points and grabbed four rebounds. Brown was 7-14 (50.0 percent) from the field, including 1-2 from three-point range, in 21 minutes of action.

In the Cavaliers’ 94-81 loss at Duke, Brown came off the bench to score 12 points and grab four rebounds. He was 5-12 (41.7 percent) from the field, including 2-5 (40.0 percent) from three-point range, in 28 minutes of playing time.

It’s the second time this season Brown has earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors.
