Virginia’s Kiamesha Otey won the 60-meter dash at the Pepsi One Invitational today, held at Virginia Tech’s Rector Fieldhouse, sprinting a season-leading 7.47 seconds. Teammate Caroline Harvey finished ninth in a time of 7.75, while Ingrid Marable ran 8.05. Otey also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 6.14m. Carielle Doe qualified provisionally in the 400m dash with a time of 54.52. Eliese Mitchell took a medal in both the shot put (3rd) and the 20-pound weight throw (2nd). Other medallists for the Cavaliers included Sharon O’Connor (2nd, mile), Jessica Randolph (HJ, 3rd), Jarrett Hagwood (LJ, 3rd)

Otey also recorded the season-best time in the 200 meter dash, she nipped Carielle Doe who also came in under the previous fastest time for the season. Shay Clark’s time in the 200 was also the fastest time for Virginia this season, and Scott Kimball, who was .12 behind him, also came in under the Cavaliers’ previous fastest time. Jason Young’s 49.51 was also a season-best, as was Doe’s time in the women’s 400m. Megan Schwartz recorded the fastest time this season in the women’s 800m, and Sharon O’Connor, Dawn Cleary, Jolene Hampson and Ellen Dwyer all finished the mile in times faster than the previous best for the season. O’Connor’s time was less than four seconds off provisional qualifying for NCAA’s.

Hagwood, the ACC leader in the 60m hurdles, improved his time to 7.93 and took third in that event. He also took third in the long jump with a season best leap of 7.19m. Mitchell’s shot put of 14.58 m was the farthest this season for a Cavalier and her weight toss was four centimeters short of tying her own school record set earlier this year. Cory Smith’s vault of 4.45m was the highest pole vault for Virginia this season as well.

Both the women and men took the silver in the 1600m relay in the season-best times.
