PALMER, PUERTO RICO – The University of Virginia men’s golf team stands in 14th place after 36 holes of the Puerto Rico Classic, held Monday at the Rio Mar River Course in Palmer, Puerto Rico.

ACC rival Georgia Tech continues to dominate the field of 15 with another 13-under day to lead by 18 strokes (550). Clemson follows at eight-under with a 568. Host Purdue is third at five-under with a 571.

Virginia stands 14th with a 602 (+26).

Individually, Georgia Tech’s Tory Matteson shot a seven-under 65 in the second round for a 10-under 134 to lead the field with a 67. Clemson’s Ben Duncan shot a 69 to follow by four strokes at 138 (-6). Georgia Tech’s Kris Mikkelsen is third with a 139 (-5).

Junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) paced Virginia with a 147 (+3) to tie for 35th. Senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) is tied at 47th with a 150 (+6). Sophomores Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) and Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) each shot a team-low 75 in the second round and stand one stroke apart.

Play concludes at the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday with the first tee time set for 7:30 a.m.
