Virginia Beach, Va. – The UVa men’s tennis team improved to 3-1 in the spring, with a dominating 7-0 win over Norfolk State, in day one of the Fabulous Four Round Robin, which is being played in Virginia Beach, Va. The Cavaliers swept all singles matches, while taking two of three doubles matches, good enough to earn the doubles point.

“I’m really pleased with how the guys focused under difficult conditions,” head coach Brian Boland said, referring to tough rainy conditions the players had to compete through. “They were disciplined and focused, and it’s just great to come away with a 7-0 victory.”

Michael Duquette improved to 9-7 on the season, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Daniel Prokes at No. 1 singles, his first match at No. 1 this spring. Stephen Nolen picked up his team-best 11th victory of the season, with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Eyal Yurtoni at No. 2. Jason Romesburg improved to 10-4 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Jakub Novak at No. 3 singles. Jonathan Chou won his sixth match of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Joshua Pelher. Chou and Romesburg teamed at No. 2 doubles to pick up an 8-3 win, their third of the spring in doubles.

Jay Curtis improved to 9-1 with a win over Kaumba Sakavuyi at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Dan Lempa won for a second consecutive time at No. 6, defeating Stephen Charter, 6-0, 6-0. Curtis teamed with Dillon Walker to pick up an 8-3 win in doubles, clinching the doubles point. Curtis and Walker are 2-0 as a team this year.

The Cavaliers will compete tomorrow in Virginia Beach at the Round Robin, taking on Old Dominion at 9 a.m., before returning home on March 6 to battle Radford at 1 p.m., at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center.
