Virginia’s Kiamesha Otey and Eliese Mitchell have both qualified to compete at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend to be held in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Otey qualified in the long jump with a personal best 6.39m while Mitchell got an automatic invite with her school-record toss of 20.06m in the 20-pound weight throw. The trip to indoor nationals is the first for both athletes.

Mitchell smashed her own school record in the weight throw at the Last Chance meet in Blacksburg on February 23, tossing 20.06m (65′ 9.75″), breaking her own record by over four feet and becoming the first Virginia athlete to pass both the 19-meter and 20-meter barrier. She is only the eighth collegian to pass the 20-meter mark this season.

Kiamesha Otey jumped a personal-best in the long jump by 7.5 inches, taking the title at the same meet in Blacksburg. Her jump is currently ranked fifth nationally.

Both Otey and Mitchell will compete on Friday, March 8.
