INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Virginia has been seeded No. 8 in the Mideast Region of the 2002 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee announced on Sunday evening.

The Cavaliers (17-12) play No. 9 seed Iowa (17-10) in first round action on Saturday, March 16 at 11:06 a.m. live on ESPN2. Host and No. 1 seed Connecticut (33-0) entertains No. 16 seed St. Francis-Pa. (19-11) 30 minutes following the first game at approximately 1:30 p.m. The winners advance to Monday’s second round game at 9:06 p.m. on ESPN. All games will be played at UConn’s Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn.

(as of March 12) Tickets are no longer available through the Virginia Athletic Ticket Office.

The winner of the second round advances the Mideast Regional, to be held March 23 and 25 at the U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee, Wis.
