Final report from the Queen City…

In 1968, North Carolina set the ACC Tournament record for the largest victory margin in a championship game by defeating NC State 87-50. That record has stood for all of these years, but Duke came close to breaking that record today when they dominated NC State 91-61. The thirty point difference is the second largest difference ever in an ACC championship game.

Just as it has been the last few years on Championship Sunday, the final tournament game ended up not being too close. Fans arrived to the Coliseum today wondering if NC State could continue their tournament run. But, it was not meant to be.

Duke came out of the gates quickly gaining the 46-32 halftime lead. Following the break, they continued the onslaught shooting 64 per cent for the game. It was not long before the fans lost enthusiasm. However, most stuck around until about the ten minute mark before starting to head to the exits.

This makes it four consecutive ACC tournament championships for Duke… The rest of the ACC must wait another year before trying to dethrone the Blue Devils. That wraps up the 49th Annual ACC Tournament from Charlotte. Next up… MARCH MADNESS…
