Charlottesville, Va. – The UVa men’s tennis team continued its winning ways, as they shut out James Madison on Thursday afternoon, at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers improve to 8-3 on the season.

“I thought our guys continued to fight hard, and I was real impressed with the overall effort once again,” head coach Brian Boland said. “I thought Michael Duquette had a big win for us. We still have a big weekend ahead of us, but this was a good win for us.”

Duquette defeated Andrew Lux at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. Duquette has now won five of his six matches at No. 1 singles this season, and improves to 13-9 on the year. Stephen Nolen added his 15th victory of the season, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mike Hendrickson. Jason Romesburg also added his 15th win of the season, as he shut out Bryan Kuehr, 6-0, 6-0. Duquette and Nolen also won at No. 1 doubles, defeating Lux and Craig Anderson, 8-1. Romesburg teamed with Jonathan Chou at No. 2 doubles, to defeat Hendrickson and Kuehr, 9-7. Duquette and Nolen improve to 8-6, while Romesburg and Chou have won six of their seven matches at No. 2 doubles this season.

Greg Alpert won his tenth match of the season, competing at No. 4 singles and defeating Anderson, 6-4, 6-4. Alpert is 2-0 at No. 4 singles, and has won four of his last five overall. Jay Curtis improved to 13-9 with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Colin Malcolm, at No. 5 singles. Curtis teamed with Dillon Walker at No. 3 doubles, as the freshman pair defeated Malcolm and Clint Morse, 9-7. Curtis and Walker are 4-1 this season, all five of their matches at No. 3 doubles.

Dan Lempa clinched the shutout, as he defeated Morse, 6-2, 7-5. Lempa, in his first year with the program, improves to 7-4, and has won three of four matches at No. 6 singles.

The Cavaliers hit a busy stretch of their schedule, as they host No. 22 Wake Forest Saturday at 1 p.m., followed by a match with No. 14 Duke on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be held at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center, pending inclement weather.
