Brandi Teamer Named National Freshman of the Year

ITHACA, N.Y. – Virginia’s Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) has been named Gballmag.com’s National Freshman of the Year, the on-line magazine announced on Monday.
The Cavaliers’ 6-0 forward also earned the 2002 ACC Rookie of the Year, All-ACC second team honors, and ACC All-Freshmen Team accolades after helping UVA to a third-place finish in the ACC standings and a 19th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
“I’m very grateful for the many accolades I received this year,” Teamer said upon hearing the announcement. “I’m also very grateful for such great teammates. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve on the court.”
A starter in all 30 games at Virginia as a true freshman, Teamer finished her rookie campaign second in team scoring with 14.3 ppg and an ACC-best 8.9 rpg, She earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors six times during the regular season. The frosh also led the Conference in double-double performances with 13. In ACC games only, she was the UVa scoring leader with 16.1 ppg. She was also named to Tulane’s Doubletree Classic all-tournament team in December.
