RICHMOND – The UVa men’s tennis team improved to 9-5 on the season, thanks to a 5-2 victory at Richmond on Tuesday afternoon. The Cavaliers also improve to 5-2 against in-state teams for the 2002 season.

Michael Duquette picked up another big win at No. 1 singles, as he defeated David Donn in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1. The Cavaliers also picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, as Jason Romesburg won his third match in his last four tries at No. 2, defeating Danny Scrafford, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, while Stephen Nolen defeated Niki Doll in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-3. Romesburg added his team-best 17th victory of the season, while first-year player Nolen is right behind him with 16 victories.

Jay Curtis picked up the other win in singles for the Cavaliers, defeating Derek Schwandt, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 5 singles. Curtis improves to 15-7, third on the team in victories.

UVa swept all three doubles matches, as all three teams dominated Richmond. Duquette and Nolen picked up their fourth consecutive win at No. 1 doubles, following up on a successful weekend against two of the nations’ top pairs, as they dropped Doll and Matthew Cabana by a score of 8-1. Duquette and Nolen are now 11-6 on the year and have won their last five matches in a row. Romesburg and Jonathan Chou defeated Scrafford and Schwandt, 8-6, at No .2 doubles, and have won six of nine matches at No. 2 doubles. They are 7-3 on the year. Freshmen pair Curtis and Dillon Walker defeated Donn and Jeppy Moss, 8-4, clinching the doubles sweep, as they improve to 5-3 on the season.

The Cavaliers return home on Thursday, as they will host Brown at 2 p.m. at the Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center, weather permitting.
