USA Track & Field selected Virginia alum and current assistant coach Dana Coons to represent the United States at the Seoul Ekiden in Seoul, Korea on April 7, 2002. An Ekiden is a multi-distance road race relay. Coons’ leg of the relay will be 6 kilometers. Seven U.S. runners were chosen to represent the United States in Seoul.

Coons, who serves as an assistant coach for the Virginia cross country/track & field team, has just come off a PR over 5 kilometers at the Raleigh Relays, running 16:17.54.The selection to represent the US represents one step in her quest to qualify for the USA Track & Field championships in 10K for 2002. In 2001 Coons qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 10K with her time of 34:24.72. She also ranks in the top-10 all-time at Virginia in the 3K, 5K, and 10K.
