Charlottesville, Va. – The UVa Men’s Tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision in its final match of the 2002 regular season. The Cavaliers close the regular season with an 11-11 record.

As a tribute to seniors Jonathan Chou and Jason Romesburg, playing in their final home match, the team came out for the doubles portion of the contest wearing orange T-shirts with either the name “Chou” or “Romesburg” on the back. The Cavaliers were close at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, but were not able to hold on as Nicholas Monroe and Daniel Pinchback defeated Jay Curtis and Romesburg at No. 2, while Trystan Meniane and Geoff Boyd held off Gregg Alpert and Stephen Nolen at No. 3. Both matches were identical 8-6 scores.

Stephen Nolen earned his 20th win on the season, in a convincing 6-3, 6-3 win over Meniane at No. 2 singles. The freshman from Colorado improves to 20-16 on the year, and is 2-0 at No. 2 singles in ACC matches.

Heading into the ACC Championships, Chou has posted 20 career wins in singles, and 30 career wins in doubles, including seven when partnered with Romesburg this season. Romesburg, who is tied for the team lead in victories this season with 20, has not only established a career-high in wins, but eclipses his previous three-year total of 18. He has 17 career wins in doubles, including 10 this season alone.

The Cavaliers conclude their 2002 regular season. Up next is the ACC Tournament, which will be held this coming weekend at the Millbrook Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. Official pairings will be announced by the ACC later this week.
