The UVa Men’s Tennis team defeated Maryland, 4-0, to advance to the second round of the ACC Tournament. The Cavaliers face North Carolina tomorrow at noon at the Millbrook Exchange Tennis Center.

“I’m really pleased with our overall performance today,” head coach Brian Boland said. “I thought we played exceptionally well in doubles. We’re excited about playing North Carolina in the second round of the tournament.”

The Cavaliers won all matches in singles and doubles, and of the matches not completed they had the lead in two singles matches and were tied in the doubles match.

Stephen Nolen won his second consecutive match as he defeated John Murchinson, 6-1, 6-0. Nolen improves to 21-16 on the season and is tied for the team-lead in wins with Jason Romesburg. Romesburg won at No. 3 singles, defeating Chris Chiu, 6-4, 6-1. Romesburg, at 21-14, leads the team in winning percentage this season (.600). Gregg Alpert clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Greg Chambers at No. 6 singles. Alpert improves to 13-13.

In doubles, Chou and Michael Duquette defeated Murchinson and Haris Causevic at No. 1 doubles, 8-6. Alpert and Nolen clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Chiu and Chambers at No. 3 doubles. Chou and Duquette pick up their second victory of the season, while Alpert and Nolen have now won five of six matches as a team.
