Virginia To Defend ACC Women's Rowing Championship On Saturday

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team competes in the third annual Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Lake Hartwell in Clemson, S.C., on Saturday (April 20). The Cavaliers won the first two ACC Championships.
Teams from Clemson, Duke, North Carolina and Virginia will compete in the first varsity eight, the second varsity eight, the novice eight and the first varsity four on Saturday. UVa is the top seed in all four events. The competition is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
Virginia won the first varsity eight, the second varsity eight and the first varsity four at last year’s ACC Championships.
The Cavaliers’ first varsity eight is ranked 11th in the nation in this week’s USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association NCAA Division I Varsity Eight Coaches Poll. UVa was ranked 12th in last week’s poll.
Virginia’s first varsity eight was named the ACC Crew of the Week this week for its performance at the George Washington Invitational Crew Classic in Washington, D.C., last Saturday (April 13). UVa’s first varsity eight came from behind in the last 500 meters to overtake the crew from Columbia and win the grand final in that event on the Potomac River.
