Golf Stands Tied For Sixth at ACC Championship

BADIN LAKE, N.C. – The University of Virginia men’s golf stands tied for sixth after the first 18 holes of the 2002 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship at the Old State Club at Uwharrie Point on Friday.
Georgia Tech, ranked No. 1 nationally, leads the nine squads with a 17-under 271. Second-ranked Clemson follows with an eight-under 280, while North Carolina is third at 283 (-5). The Cavaliers carded a 291 (+3) to tie with Duke.
Individually, UNC’s Dustin Bray leads the field of 45 golfers with a six-under 66. Georgia Tech’s Kris Mikkelsen and Nicholas Thompson follow by one stroke to tie for second with a 67 (-5).
UVa senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.) and junior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) stand tied at 19th with an even 72. Junior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) is tied for 25th with a 73 (+1), while sophomore Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) is 30th with a 74 (+2). Freshman Scott McMahon (Austin, Texas) is 42nd with a 77 (+5).
Tee times for the ACC Championship second round begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20. The final round is slated for Sunday, April 21.
