CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia head volleyball coach Melissa Aldrich Shelton has announced the signing of Lisa Krolikowski (Hales Corners, Wis./Pius XI) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Virginia and play volleyball for the Cavaliers beginning in the 2002-2003 academic year. Shelton also announced that former Virginia club team member Ruth Selby (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) will join the Cavaliers in the fall, after walking on to the team in the spring.

Lisa Krolikowski is a 5-11 outside hitter from Puis XI High School in Milwaukee, Wis. She was a member of the 2001 All-State third-team and a first-team All-Conference selection, after being an honorable mention pick in 2000 and 1999. She also lettered in basketball and track all four years at Puis XI. Krolikowski is the valedictorian of her graduating class.

“We are very fortunate to be able to find a student-athlete like Lisa during the late signing period,” said Shelton. “She is a terrific athlete who will bring powerful hitting, dynamic blocking, and a calm court presence to our team.”

Krolikowski is UVa’s second signee for the 2002 season. She joins 6-0 middle hitter Kristin Chaney (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston), who signed with Virginia in the early signing period.

Ruth Selby, a first-year, is a 5-6 defensive specialist/libero from Palo Alto, Calif. The Jefferson Scholar joined the team in the spring of 2002, after competing on the Virginia club team in the fall.

“Ruth adds a much needed punch to our intensity level and competitiveness. Her skills have shown strong improvement during the six weeks she trained with us and we are expecting her to contribute across the backrow next fall,” said Shelton.
