CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team has been invited to the 2002 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf East Regional Championship, the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee announced late Monday.

Making their 10th East Regional appearance, the Cavaliers will compete on May 16-18 at the Ansley Golf Club’s Settin’ Down Creek in Roswell, Ga. Hosted by Georgia Tech, the 54-hole tourney features 27 teams and six individuals competing for spots at the 2002 NCAA Championship May 29-June 1 at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio.

The low 10 teams and the low two individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship.

In its last NCAA tournament team appearance in 2000, Virginia placed ninth at the East Regional and advanced to the NCAA Championship where the Cavaliers tied for 25th overall.

Paced by senior Steve Marino (Fairfax, Va.), UVa won the Hawaii Fall Classic and the Wofford Invitational this season.
