AUSTIN, Texas – The Virginia volleyball team lost to Texas 3-0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-20) Friday evening (August 30) at Gregory Gym to fall to 0-2 in the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational. The Cavaliers opened the season Friday afternoon with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-21, 30-25) loss to San Diego. UVa is now 0-2 on the season, while the Longhorns improve to 2-0. Virginia concludes play in the tournament on Saturday (August 31) when it takes on Texas Pan-American at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Third-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) led UVa with 10 kills and six digs, while third-year middle Shannon Boyle (Cincinnati, Ohio/Ursuline Academy) added seven kills. Second-year setter Lily Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon) dished out 16 assists, while third-year libero Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) paced the Cavaliers in digs with nine. After recording 10 kills against San Diego, second-year middle Alexis Geocaris (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) posted four kills and three service aces against the Longhorns.

Mira Topic registered a double-double for Texas with a match-high 13 kills and 10 digs. Kathy Hahn and Bethany Howden both tallied 11 kills, while Caron Blotch handed out 38 assists.

The Longhorns hit .320 in the match with 48 kills, while Virginia hit only .065 with 28 kills. Texas also held a 47-34 advantage in digs.
