CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s tennis team will host the first annual UVa Invitational this weekend at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers will host 13 other schools for three days of top collegiate tennis. The event runs from Friday, September 20 to Sunday September 22 and play begins each day at 9:00 a.m.

Eight of the teams participating (Alabama, Virginia Commonwealth, Wake Forest, Louisville, Rice, Iowa, Nebraska, and Old Dominion) finished the 2002 season ranked by the ITA. The other participating schools are American, Charleston Southern, Liberty, NC State, and the host Cavaliers. Virginia Tech is also sending several individuals.

The three-day event features three singles draws of 32 players and 3 doubles draws of 16 teams. Flight A features six players ranked by the ITA nationally in the 2002-03 preseason rankings, including Virginia’s Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.).
