KAHUKU, Hawaii – The defending champion Virginia men’s golf team finished fifth at the 2002 Hawaii Fall Classic on Tuesday.

UNLV took home the team championship with a 857 (-7), while Tennessee was second with a 861 (-3). South Carolina claimed third with a 863 (-1). Washington State was fourth with a 874 (+10), one stroke better than UVa. The Cavaliers shot an even 288 in the final round to card a 875 (+11).

Individually, Washington State’s Dustin White fired a five-under 67 in the final round to capture medalist honors with a 212 (-4). UNLV’s J.C. Deacon followed by one stroke with a 213 (-3), while teammate Mitch Carlson was third with a 214 (-2).

Cavalier Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.), who shot back-to-back rounds of a two-under 70, bolted up to tie for eighth with a 218 (+2). Senior Thomas Lee (Gluttenburg, N.J.) followed by two strokes with a 220 (+4) to tie for 16th. Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) and freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) tied for 22nd with a 221 (+5). Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) stood 47th with a 227 (+11).

With the Hawaii Fall Classic, Virginia has concluded its falls schedule. The Cavaliers compete again in the spring, opening the slate at the Rice Intercollegiate on Feb. 10-11.
