WINTER PARK, Fla – Virginia junior Kase Luzar earned 2002 Verizon Academic All-District second team honors for football in District III on Friday.

The Williamsburg, Va., native is the Cavaliers’ starting fullback. Having moved from tight end to fullback this season to better utilize his skills, Luzar has nine catches for 47 yards and scored the winning touchdown in Virginia’s upset of No. 22 South Carolina. Also a member of the UVa special teams, the Spanish major has been named to the Dean’s list twice. Named to the ACC Honor Roll each season, Luzar is a member of the Sigma Delta Pi National Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Phi Eta Sigma National Freshman Honor Society. He’s been named to the UVA Athletic Honor Roll every semester of his collegiate career.

District III is comprised of all Division I and I-AA schools in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 and be a starter or key reserve.

Virginia (6-4, 4-2) hosts No. 20 NC State (9-2, 4-2) on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Carl Smith Center, home of David A. Harrison III Field at Scott Stadium. Kickoff is set for Noon on the ACC/Jefferson Pilot Television Network.
