CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP)Travis Watson had 26 points, 13 rebounds, fourblocks and four steals and transfer Todd Billet added 20 points Friday night,lifting Virginia to a 90-86 victory against Long Island in the season-openerfor both teams.

The Cavaliers (1-0), who beat the Blackbird 96-50 to open the 2000 season,won despite being outrebounded 41-30 and allowing Long Island to make 103-pointers.

JaJa Bey led the Blackbirds (0-1) with 21 points.

The Cavaliers shot 66.7 percent in the first half, but led only 44-40 at the break because theBlackbirds made six 3-pointers.

Watson was 11-for-13 from the field, while Billet, who sat out last seasonafter transferring from Rutgers, was 5-for-10 from behind the arc in hisCavaliers debut.

Jason Clark added 12 points for the Cavaliers.

Maurice Yearwood hit 5 3-pointers and added 17 points for LIU. Derek Bellhad 16 points and eight rebounds and Antawn Dobie had 15 points and sevenrebounds.
