WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – University of Virginia wrestler Byron Dunlap (York, Pa./Dallastown) competed in the 70th Annual Wilkes Open Wrestling Championship at the Henry Gym-Marts Center. Dunlap, a red-shirt sophomore, won two matches in the 133-pound class.

Dunlap won his first bout after cruising to an 8-0 major decision victory over Franklin & Marshall’s Joe Perreta before dropping a 6-3 decision to Mike Trotta (unattached) in his second match of the event. Dunlap then bounced right back in his next bout and pinned Penn’s Nate Vickers at 1:40 into the match before a medical forfeit stopped Dunlap in a scheduled match with Lee Comstock.

Dunlap and the Cavaliers will return to action on January 4 when Virginia travels to Dallas, Texas to compete in the 2002 Lone Star Duals. Competition will take place at South Grand Prairie High School. UVa will face off against Stanford, Nebraska, Wyoming and Northern Iowa in the event.
