University of Virginia track and field alumna Nikki Kimbrough has advanced to the Star Search semifinals to take place on Thursday, Jan 16. Star Search, a show on the CBS network that airs on Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 8:00 pm EST, features performers in a variety of categories competing for a $100,000 prize and a recording contract with Sony. Kimbrough is entered in the adult singer category.

Kimbrough’s rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” earned rave reviews, including one from Naomi Judd who said “”You sparkle like that dress.” Judd also anointed Kimbrough “the next Tina Turner.”

Contestants are judged by a panel of four judges who can award up to five stars to each contestant. Kimbrough earned 18 out of 20 possible stars. The other half of the contestant’s total is based on votes from the viewing public. Interested parties can log onto CBS’ website and cast a vote during the show.
