HUNTINGTON, W.VA. – The Virginia women’s tennis team defeated Marshall, 6-1, on Friday afternoon at the Huntington Tennis Club.

Virginia improved to 2-1 overall in dual matches, while Marshal fell to 2-2.

The No. 54 Cavaliers claimed the first point over the No. 75 Thundering Herd as they captured the doubles point. Seniors Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jennifer Tuchband (Milburn, N.J.) won at No. 1 doubles, while sophomores Dora Bechliwanis and Marta Bechliwanis (Etobicoke, Ont.) won at No. 3 doubles.

In singles action, Williams and Touchband claimed the first two matches. Freshman Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) clinched the match with the foruth point as she won at No. 3 singles.

Virginia faces No. 14 Kentucky on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Huntington (W.V.) Tennis Club.
