Durham, N.C. – The University of Virginia Women’s basketball team fell at #2 Duke Monday night, 75-48.

The Cavaliers fall to 10-12 overall and 4-7 in ACC play, while the Blue Devils improved to 22-1 overall and 10-0 in the league, improving their overall conference streak to 34 straight wins.

“We didn’t do a very good job offensively,” said Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan. ” I had no idea what went wrong during the last 12 minutes.”

Virginia came within 4 points, 42-38 with 12:45 to go, and then Duke sparked a 17-4 run, scoring the first 10 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.

Sophomore Cherrise Graham (Conshohocken, Pa.) paced the Cavaliers with 11 points. Sophomore Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) and Sophomore Latonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) added 10 points each.

“It was a physical game,” said Junior Anna Crosswhite (Castlecrag, Australia). ” I like a physical game. It was very up-tempo.”

Duke’s Alana Beard led the Blue Devils with 24 points. Iciss Tillis followed with 17, while Sheana Mosch added 11.

“We played good defense and we rebounded well,” said Ryan. “We did the things we were suppose to do.”

Virginia returns home on Thursday, February 13 to host N.C. State in a 7:30 p.m. contest at University Hall. Charlottesville”s WINA Radio (1070 AM) broadcasts each UVa game live with Jed Williams and Myron Ripley calling the action.
