CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 52 Virginia men’s tennis team will host No. 10 Minnesota Friday in a battle of two of the 21 remaining undefeated teams in Division I men’s tennis. The Cavaliers (6-0) and Golden Gophers (6-0) are set for action at Boar’s Head Sports Club at 6:00 p.m.

The Cavaliers are off to one of the best starts in school history. Head Coach Brian Boland’s squad has won all six of their matches in 2003, four by 7-0 scores. In their only action against a ranked foe, the Cavaliers beat No. 55 William & Mary 5-2 on January 29. Virginia is led by first-year Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.), ranked No. 107 in the nation in singles.

Minnesota is 6-0 this season, with all six wins coming over ranked opponents. The tenth-ranked Gophers are currently enjoying their highest ranking since 1986 and are led by Thomas Haug, ranked No. 54 nationally in singles, and Aleksey Zharinov, ranked No. 58 nationally in singles.

The match begins a four-match homestand at Boar’s Head, with the Cavaliers hosting Georgetown and Liberty on February 22 and Old Dominion on February 28. Admission to all Virginia tennis matches is free.
