Men's Tennis Sweeps Doubleheader

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 51 Virginia men’s tennis team swept a doubleheader Saturday at Boar’s Head Sports Club, defeating Georgetown and Liberty by 7-0 scores. The win improves the Cavaliers’ record to 8-1 on the season.

Against Georgetown, the Cavaliers took a 1-0 lead by sweeping the doubles contests. Virginia then completed the shutout of the Hoyas by taking all six singles matches. Against Liberty, Virginia also swept all three doubles and all six singles matches. First-years Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.), Stephen Rozek (Chardron, Ohio), and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) along with second-year Stephen Nolen (Aurora, Colo.) and fourth-year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va.) all won singles matches in both dual matches.

“Today was a great opportunity to get a lot of our players a chance to play,” stated Virginia head coach Brian Boland. “We are a young team that just needs to keep playing a lot of matches in order to keep improving.”

The Cavaliers return to action on February 28 as they host No. 75 Old Dominion at Boar’s Head at 6:00 p.m.
