Men's Golf Currently 17th at Puerto Rico Classic

Palmer, Puerto Rico – The Virginia men’s golf team is currently 17th after first round play in the 2003 Puerto Rico Classic.
N.C. State finished the day off in first place with an even par of 288. Minnesota and Oklahoma State tied for second with a score of 291 (+3). Fourth place is held by Clemson with a 293 (+5), while Texas grabbed fifth with a 296 (+8).
Individually, Clemson’s D.J. Trahan and N.C. State’s Fernando Machareffe both tied for first with a 69 (-3). Minnesota’s Simon Nash and N.C. State’s Justin Walters and Stephen Lewton fired a 70 (-2), placing them in third. Following behind by one stroke is Oklahoma State?s Hunter Mahan and Texas’s Rusty Kennedy with a 71.
Cavalier Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) shot a 76 (+4) to tie the 35th spot. Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) placed 67th with a score of 80 (+8), while teammate Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) placed 77th, with a 82 (+10). Freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville,N.Y.) shot a 87 (+15) to place 87th. Senior Thomas Lee (Gluttenburg, N.J.) finished in 90th with a 94 (+22).
The Cavs continue tourney play on Monday, February 24, and Tuesday, February 25 at the Westin Rio Mar Country Club in Palmer, Puerto Rico.
