PALMER, Puerto Rico – The Virginia men’s golf team concluded action at the 2003 Puerto Rico Classic with a 17th-place showing on Tuesday.

Oklahoma State, which shot a round-best 282 (-6), soared to the top of the field with a 10-stroke victory. OSU finished with a two-under 862 after 54 holes. Eighth-ranked Minnesota, No. 1 Clemson, and No. 11 Texas tied for second with 872 (+8) each. The No. 14 NC State Wolfpack, which paced the field through the first two days, fell to sixth place, giving up 13 strokes in the final round. Virginia shot a 311 on the day for a 949 (+85) overall.

Individually, NC State’s Justin Walters and Texas’ Jason Hartwick tied for medalist honors with a five-under 211 each. Five players tied for third with a two-under 214.

Freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied for 61st with a 232 (+16) each. Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) tied for 78th with a 240 (+24), while freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) had a 245 (+29). Senior Thomas Lee (Gluttenburg, N.J.) finished with a 278 (+62).

The Cavaliers will participate in the Palencia Collegiate Invitational on March 2-3 in St. Augustine, Fla.
