KAHUKU, Hawaii – The Virginia men’s golf team captured third place at Hawaii’s Turtle Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers, who were tied for first with South Carolina after the first day, shot a 304 in the final round for a 895 (+31) 54-hole total. Host Hawaii fired a tourney low 292 in the final round to tie South Carolina for the team title. Both squads finished with a 891 (+27). St. Mary’s (Calif.) took fourth with a 900 (+36).

Playing as an individual, South Carolina’s Robert Svensson captured medalist honors with a two-under 214. Coastal Carolina’s Alvaro Velasco followed by a stroke with a 215 (-1).

Junior Kevin O’Connell (Potomac, Md.) paced UVa with a 219 (+3) to tie for fourth overall. Sophomore Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.) tied for 16th with a 224 (+8). Senior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) and sophomore Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) tied for 19th with a 226 (+10) each. Sophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, Eng.) fired a 243 (+27) to tied for 76th.

Playing as individuals, freshman Daniel McGurk (Woodlands, Texas) tied for ninth with a 222 (+6), while freshman Mark Perry (Atlanta, Ga.) shot a 238 (+22) to tie for 69th overall.

The Turtle Bay Intercollegiate concludes Virginia’s fall schedule. The Cavaliers resume action on Feb. 9-10 at the Rice University Intercollegiate.
