SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Virginia’s first varsity eight crew finished third in that competition on Sunday (Nov. 9) at the Head of the Lake Regatta.
Michigan State won the competition with a time of 17:18.6 followed by the University of Victoria (17:21.3) and Virginia (17:24.8). Stanford finished fourth in 17:29.5 followed by Washington (17:30.3), the University of British Columbia (17:35.3), Syracuse (17:44.9), Washington State (17:50.7) and Oregon State (17:54.3). Sixteen crews competed in the competition.
“It was a long trip, but the kids handled it well,” said Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer. “We had a good beginning to the race, we were flat in the middle and had a pretty good end.
“It was good to come out here and race. It was a good experience. We learned a lot and now we’re working toward the Rivanna Romp.”
Virginia hosts the Rivanna Romp on Sunday (Nov. 16) at the Rivanna Reservoir. The regatta is scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. and among the women’s teams scheduled to compete are Buffalo, Cincinnati, Duke, Ohio State and Tennessee. There will also be a men’s component to the Rivanna Romp hosted by the UVa men’s club rowing team.
