CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s basketball team has received National Letters of Intent from two student-athletes during the early signing period, head coach Debbie Ryan announced on Friday.

Denesha Kenion and Sharnee Zoll will play for the Cavaliers next season.

“Both players will make us better and make a difference,” Ryan said.

Kenion, a 5-9 guard from Oxon Hill, Md., is a two-time Street & Smith’s honorable mention All-American from Oxon Hill High School. Named All-Metro Washington D.C. in 2003 and honorable mention in 2002, she averaged 14 points, five assists, and five steals per game while leading Oxon Hill to the 2003 high school final four. Kenion is ranked No. 20 on the All-Star Girls Report’s best shooting guard list.

“Denesha is a very athletic 2-3 player who is one of the best penetrators I’ve ever seen,” Ryan said. “She will add a lot of athleticism to our team.”

Zoll, a 5-7 point guard from Marlboro, N.J., is a three-time Street & Smith’s All-American from Highland High School. Ranked seventh by the All-Star Girls Report as the best point guard nationally, she was also a USA Today Super 25 honoree. A three-time attendee of the Nike All-American Camp, Zoll was named to the USA Today Freshman All-America Team. A three-time all-state, all-district, and all-county honoree, she earned AAU Under-16 All-America honors in 2003. Zoll averaged 10 points, five assists, and five steals while at Highland HS.

“We are very, very fortunate to get a player like Sharnee Zoll,” Ryan said. “She is the consummate point guard and the best true point guard in the country this year. Our team will become immediately better with her on it.”

The Cavaliers, which finished last season at 17-14 with a 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, open the 2003-04 campaign at home with UNC Greensboro on Friday, Nov. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
