CHARLOTTESVILLE – Five members of the Virginia men’s tennis team advanced to the round of 16 on Friday as play opened at the 2003 UVa Open at Boar’s Head Sports Club. Action continues on Saturday with round of 16 singles and doubles.

In singles play, No. 2 seed Doug Stewart (Malibu, Calif.) advanced with a second round win over Morten Schultz of Virginia Tech after a first round bye. No. 5 seed Stephen Rozek (Chadron, Ohio) defeated Warren Woolfolk of The Citadel in a second round match to advance. Marko Miklo (Bratislava, Slovakia), the No. 7 seed, downed Adriano Mello of Old Dominion in straight sets in the second round, while No. 9 seeds Rylan Rizza (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Nick Meythaler (Owensboro, Ky.) also reached the round of 16.

The UVa Open will run through Sunday at the Boar’s Head Sports Club.
