CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia crews won the women’s varsity four and the women’s novice eight competitions, and finished second in the women’s varsity eight competition in the Rivanna Romp at the Rivanna Reservoir on Sunday (Nov. 16). The regatta was the final competition of the 2003 fall season for the Virginia women’s rowing team.

Virginia’s varsity four “A” crew won with a time of 14:56.3 followed by the Tennessee “A” boat (15:08.3) and the Ohio State “A” boat (15:17.4). The Duke “A” boat finished fourth (15:26.7) followed by the Virginia “C” boat (15:32.5) and the Tennessee ‘B” boat (15:33.4). Nineteen crews competed in the competition.

The crew of UVa’s varsity four “A” boat was comprised of coxswain Danielle Sewell, Yvonne Epp, Renee Albers, Genevieve Cauchon-Voyer and Melanie Kok.

The Cavaliers’ novice eight “A” boat won with a time of 15:05.1 followed by Tennessee’s “A” boat (15:07) and Cincinnati’s “A” boat (15:l7.3). Virginia’s “B” crew finished fourth (15:24.5) followed by Tennessee’s “B” boat (15:45.9), Duke’s ‘A” boat (15:55.8) and Virginia’s “C” boat (16:26.4).

UVa’s novice eight “A” crew was made up of coxswain Katie Hilton, Vicki Moore, Laura Elizares, Anna Samaha, Meredith Danberg-Ficarelli, Valeri Morini, Annemarie Pitts, Jamie Hertig and Amelia Gunn.

The Ohio State “A” boat won the varsity eight competition with a time of 13:07.6 followed by Virginia’s “A” boat (13:11.0) and Tennessee’s “A” boat (13:11.8). Duke’s “A” crew finished fourth (13:22.3) followed by the UVa “B” boat (13:23.2) and the Duke “B” boat (13:30.6). Seventeen crews competed in the competition.

The Cavaliers’ varsity eight “A” crew was comprised of coxswain Betty Shumaker, Yvonne Epp, Renee Albers, Jennifer Reck, Lindsay Shoop, Margaret Matia, Sara Lippa, Genevieve Cauchon-Voyer and Melanie Kok. Virginia’s varsity eight “B” crew was made up of coxswain Danielle Sewell, Carolyn McMillan, Kathryn Waller, Libby McCann, Julie Creighton, Beth Clark, Crystal MacLeod, Mary Dobmeier and Jessica Haury.

In the women’s varsity pair competition, Ohio State’s “A” boat won with a time of 16:09.1 followed by Duke’s A” boat (16:27.5) and Tennessee’s “A” boat (16:31.7). Duke’s “C” boat finished fourth (16:34.6) followed by Virginia’s “B” boat (16:36.1). Eighteen crews participated in the competition.

There was also a men’s component to the Rivanna Romp and Virginia’s men’s club rowing team won the varsity eight, the novice eight, the varsity four and the varsity pair competitions against North Carolina.
