GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Virginia volleyball team is the fifth seed in the 2003 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Championship, which takes place November 20-23 in Orlando, Fla., at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex. The Cavaliers will play fourth-seeded North Carolina in the quarterfinals on Friday morning (November 21) at 11:00 a.m.

Virginia enters the 2003 ACC Championship with a 24-8 overall record and concluded regular season ACC play with an 8-8 mark. The Tar Heels stand at 19-11 overall and 10-6 in the ACC. The winner of Friday’s match advances to Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. semifinal.

The Cavaliers split the 2003 regular season series with North Carolina with both teams winning on the road. In the first meeting of the season on October 7, UNC took a 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 32-30) decision in Charlottesville. UVa earned a split in the 2003 series with a 3-2 (25-30, 30-26, 26-30, 30-26, 18-16) come-from-behind victory in Chapel Hill on November 8. North Carolina leads the all-time series 29-9.
