CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Virginia women’s golf team has received a National Letter of Intent from Lauren Mielbrecht during the early signing period, head coach Jan Mann announced on Friday.

“We are extremely pleased to have Lauren join our program,” Mann said. “She is an outstanding individual and one of the top junior golfers in the country. Lauren has proven success on the national level winning the Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series on two occasions and several top 10 finishes in other national events. She is a very determined and goal-oriented individual. I expect Lauren to have an immediate impact on our program.”

Mielbrecht, a resident of Gulf Stream, Fla., is an American Junior Golf Association Scholastic Junior All-American, one of 10 junior girls in the nation to receive this award. She won the 2002 Florida girls high school state championship. A senior at St. Andrew’s School in Boca Raton, Mielbrecht was the 2003 runner up with scores of 71 and 68, enabling her team to repeat as state champions.

Virginia women’s golf is in the midst of its first competitive season. The Cavaliers hit the links again on Feb. 27-29 at the Pinehurst Challenge.
