The University of Virginia men’s cross country team finished 30th at the NCAA Cross Country National Championships held today at the Irv Warren Memoria Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa. The event was hosted by the University of Northern Iowa. The Cavaliers, competing in the NCAA meet for the first time since 1984, were led by Will Christian, who finished 130th overall in a 31:26.1.

Virginia’s Andy Filachek finished just behind Christian, 1.8 seconds behind his teammate. First year Alex Tatu, Dave Vitto, and Walton Kingsbery, closed out Virginia’s scorers.

Virginia finished fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet, earning enough points at garner an At-Large bid to the meet. The Cavaliers have been ranked as high as 16th this season following their 5th place finish at the Great American Cross Country Festival at which they upset five ranked teams.
