Minnesota Head Coach Dan Monson

On the game:I thought our effort was good and we played hard and I thought we scrapped onthe boards, but they just did a great job of getting us out of rhythmoffensively. Our guards did a decent job against the pressure, as most of ourturnovers were from our big guys. What we did was took shots out of that pressurewithout very good shot preparation and settled. I think when we didn’t do that,we were able to get it inside to Kris Humphries.

This game gave us a lot to improve on. But again, we came up short on theroad and that’s just unacceptable. Our defense needs a lot of work. We can’t goon the road and give up 86 points.

Virginia Head Coach Pete Gillen

On the game:That was a big win for our young team. Coach Dan Monson is a terrific coachand I have great respect for him. Minnesota has a great baskestball tradition,so we’re excited to beat a quality team and program and coaching staff likethat.

Our defense was good. We held then to 37 percent from the floor. We couldn’tguard Humphries, he was just a monster.

On the game plan :We thought we could pressure them a little bit, try to get them out of theiroffense. We didn’t want it to be a half-court game, because we would havevery little chance if it were a half-court game–they would have just pounded itdown to Humphries.

On the rebounding efforts:Rebounding was a disaster. We are just going to have keep working on it.We’re going to have to be more physical and more aggressive.

On changing the starting lineup:We put Devin Smith in because he’s such a great player. He’s not thathealthy, but he’s one of our top players. We needed some physical players against abig and talented team.
