CHARLOTTESVILLE – The University of Virginia has already had a record-setting ticket sale for the 2003 Continental Tire Bowl and the game won’t be played until December 27.

Through Monday (Dec. 15), Virginia’s athletics ticket office had processed a total of 20,063 tickets. That’s more tickets than the UVa athletics ticket office has processed for any of the Cavaliers’ previous 13 bowl games. The previous record was approximately 18,500 processed for last year’s Continental Tire Bowl and for the 1998 Peach Bowl.

UVa Athletics Director Craig Littlepage also announced on Monday that Virginia would receive credit for 2,500 bowl tickets sold through other outlets. That brings UVa’s total ticket count to over 22,500 and that’s Virginia’s largest total bowl ticket figure. The previous record was approximately 21,000 for the 1998 Peach Bowl.

Virginia plays the University of Pittsburgh in the 2003 Continental Tire Bowl at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., at 11:00 a.m. on December 27.

Tickets for the bowl game are still available through the Virginia athletics ticket office. The office is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday through December 23. Tickets can also be ordered by calling 800/542-8821 or 434/924-8821.
