GREENSBORO, N.C.- – Virginia freshman Siedah Williams (Cleveland, Ohio) was named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

The center had her first career start at St. Joseph’s on Thursday and proved her worthiness. She netted a career-high and game-high 23 points, a career-high eight rebounds, and a career-high two assists. She also blocked her first shot as a Cavalier.

In Saturday’s 87-53 win over Wagner, Williams made her second straight start and contributed 10 points and six boards.

After eight contests in her inaugural campaign, Williams stands third in team scoring with 9.0 ppg and 5.1 rpg.

The ACC honor is the first of Williams’ career.

Virginia will host its Cavalier Classic on Dec. 28-29 at University Hall. The Hoos open with Temple on Sunday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. All of the Cavaliers’ games can be heard on WINA Radio (1070 AM) and on the Virginia website at www.VirginiaSports.com (click on the game schedule).
