CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s basketball team opens the 2004 ACC season on Friday, Jan. 2 with Clemson. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. at University Hall.

The Lady Tigers, under the guidance of 17th-year head coach Jim Davis, stand 10-1 after a 84-65 win over Coastal Carolina. Lakeia Stokes is the team leader with 19.0 ppg, while Julie Tailey and Kanetra Queen add 12.0 ppg each.

The Cavaliers then head to Maryland for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday, Jan. 4. RSN-TV will televise the game.

The Terrapins, under the guidance of second-year head coach Brenda Frese, stand 7-3 after a 65-53 loss to No.3 Texas Tech in San Diego?s Surf-N-Slam Tournament on Dec. 28. Shay Doron is the team leader with 13.4 ppg, while Kalika France adds 11.3 ppg. Maryland plays Georgetown on Dec. 30 and hosts NC State in the ACC opener on Jan. 2 before hosting Virginia on Jan. 4.
