GREENSBORO, N.C. – Two University of Virginia women’s basketball players have been named the 2004 All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams, the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA) announced.

Junior LaTonya Blue (Baltimore, Md.) earned Third Team All-ACC honors. She was also one of the five players to earn All-Defensive Team honors. A 5-11 guard, Blue stands second in team scoring with 9.6 ppg and 5.4 rpg. She leads UVa in assists (117) and steals (63). The junior stands third in the ACC in steals per game and in defensive rebounds. This season Blue earned all-tournament team honors at the Rainbow Wahine Classic and the Cavalier Classic. She was named the Fox Sports’ Player of the Game following UVa’s win at Wake Forest following her game-winning jumper with 14.9 seconds to play.

The ACC honor is the first in Blue’s career. She is only the second Cavalier in school history to be named to the All-Defensive Team. Renee Robinson (1997-2000) also earned the honor in 2000, the first year of the award.

The All-Defensive Team is selected by the nine ACC women’s basketball head coaches, while the other teams are selected by the media.

Junior Brandi Teamer (Joliet, Ill.) was named to the Honorable Mention All-ACC Team. A preseason All-ACC honoree, the 6-2 forward leads UVa with 12.0 ppg and 5.7 rpg. She earned the conference’s Player of the Week honor on Dec. 30 following her stellar play against Temple and No. 6/7 Minnesota. She was named to the Cavalier Classic All-Tournament team.

The ACC honor is the third of Teamer’s career. As a true freshman during the 2002 season, she was named to the Second Team All-ACC and All-Freshman teams as well as ACC Freshman of the Year. Last season, Teamer earned Second Team All-ACC honors for the second straight year.

The No. 7 seed Cavaliers will tackle No. 2 seed North Carolina in the quarterfinal round of the 2004 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro, N.C. Tip-off is set for Saturday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. The Regional Sports Network (Comcast, Fox Sports Net South, Sunshine Network) will televise the game live from the Greensboro Coliseum.
